Southern Pines is our headquarters and home as much
for its sense of community as for its mild climate and unique resort atmosphere.
The Sandhills region offers opportunity for sensible growth and we enjoy
playing a role keeping it beautiful and lively. We also seek out projects
throughout the Carolinas and beyond.
In our work and world view, we stress
the word “design” as
much as “architecture” because the ideas of place and intentionality
and vision take us beyond physical structure. We’re finding more
and more clients who expect this from their design partners.

In 1988, after a six-year tenure with Cooper-Lecky Architects
in Washington, DC, Lynn Page Anderson founded the firm Anderson
Architecture in Southern Pines, North Carolina.
Lynn has watched this area change and grow over her lifetime.
Most of her recent and current projects are located in Moore
and Cumberland Counties. She maintains a personal interest in
the vitality and visual quality of the Sandhills.
In her practice, Lynn has designed commercial and institutional
buildings for private and public municipal clients. Her
residential projects range from custom houses, barns and horse
farms to townhouses and condominiums. She has demonstrated
her dedication to quality design with a great diversity of project
types from The Gibbon Exhibit at the National Zoo in Washington,
DC to The Village Hall in Pinehurst, from hangers for A-10 Warthogs
to medical offices for Carolina Behavioral Care.
Lynn often uses her artistic talent to provide handsomely drawn
architectural renderings that help her clients visualize their
projects.

Robert Anderson
joined the firm in July, 2005. Prior to
that, he was the Principal-in-Charge of the Southern Pines office
of Hayes-Howell, PA Architects. He has worked on many project
types including Educational, Institutional, Medical, Multi-family
housing, Private Residences, Office, and Commercial.
Robert’s skills with visualization methods ensure that clients
take part in the evolution of the design and understand the nature
of their project at every step.
Robert’s designs have resulted in design awards at the national,
state and regional levels. The project sizes in his portfolio range
from $10,000 for construction to $18 million, and
from 250 square feet to 300,000 square feet, with Master Planning
up to 150 acres.

Mark
E. Dean, M Arch
Project Manager |
State University of New York, Master
of Architecture, 1993
State University of New York, Bachelor of Prof. Studies,
Arch., 1990
Duchess Community College, A.A.S., 1988
Mark is an excellent
construction technician. His duties
include research and development of building systems, and their
incorporation into our work. He has a remarkable graphic
sense which leads to very clear and understandable construction
documents. This talent, in turn, leads to fewer problems
in the field. He aids greatly in the development of project
standards, computer and graphics standards, and networking architecture.
Mark
is a focused, detail-oriented, and well-organized project manager,
so he is capable of handling several complex projects at once. He is accomplished in both the field and the office
as a construction administrator. He gives exacting
reviews of submittals for products and assemblies. Because of his
careful review of construction in-house and on the job, countless
contractor errors have been prevented or mitigated in time. He
is timely in his responses when questions arise, and
he works well with the men in the field.
He has worked with Mr. Anderson since 1993, and made the move with
him to Anderson Architecture.

Mollie Tobias, BFA
Interior Designer |
Savannah College of Art and Design, Bachelor of Fine Arts Magna
Cum Laude, 2004
Mollie graduated from S.C.A.D. with a major in interior
design and a minor in architecture. She has worked in several internships
in both interior design and architecture firms before coming to
Anderson Architecture in early 2006, and her skills clearly bridge
both disciplines.
Mollie has worked on a variety of projects
ranging from assisted care facilities to commercial up-fits and
religious spaces, and from high-end residential to mixed-use,
multi-family projects. While
much of her commercial work has focused on the challenge of using
design to boost morale and productivity, she has an uncanny grasp
of the subtleties required for quality residential architecture.
With us, she has honed her natural grasp of construction to help
administer projects as large as $12.5 million.
Not only does she select color schemes, plan
interior spaces, and perform design documentation tasks, she also uses
her significant and varied computer skills to create most
of our three-dimensional models, which our clients often use in
their marketing materials and on their websites. She brings
a highly motivated and energetic presence to any project she touches.

W. Calvin Howell, AIA
emeritus |
NC State University
Calvin studied at the North Carolina State
University School of Architecture when it was run by the inimitable
Henry Kamphoefner. He was one of the founding members of the
well-known Sandhills firm of Hayes-Howell, PA. He has been
a part of Anderson Architecture since 2005.
Over his long career, Calvin was a specialist
with the enormous variety and array of technical and legal documents
one encounters in architectural practice. His expertise in thermal and moisture
intrusion prevention principles and techniques is highly regarded. He
champions a rigorous approach to detailing that makes a tremendous
difference to a building’s longevity. There aren’t
many project types he hasn’t worked on.
Calvin has cut back his involvement to part-time,
but is still in our office at least once a week, depending on
his work load. Among
his typical responsibilities, he is in charge of all the renovation
work at the Penick Village in Southern Pines. His knowledge
and gentlemanly manners have made him a favorite of contractors,
consultants, and clients for many years.

Maury Finnegan, AIA
Specifications and Cost Control |
Maury joined Robert’s previous firm in 1993, when he relocated
from New York, where he had his own firm for many years. His
projects in New York were mostly large-scale government, educational,
and medical, so he brought much valuable experience to the Sandhills.
He came to Anderson Architecture
in 2005 as a consultant, exclusively serving our firm with his
architectural skills. His ability
to ascertain the probable bid price of a project is remarkable, and
he has often predicted the bids within less than half a percent. Maury’s
strong experience with product and system specification is also very
helpful, and he often provides us with the first draft of a spec
for the project architect to refine. Owning his own firm for
many years has afforded him great judgment regarding product reliability
and a construction method’s applicability to a given situation. We
deeply appreciate his continued participation.

Katie Sparrow, BS Arch
Intern Architect |
Ball State University, Bachelor of Science
in Architecture, 2006
As evidence for her remarkable determination
and focus, Katie made time during her undergraduate years to
work an internship in Florida, gaining for herself valuable ground-level
professional experience before she even graduated. Before coming
to our firm in mid-2007 Katie further built her experience in
the widely varied practice of an Indiana-based, award-winning
firm. She is
committed to design that is well-founded in her common-sense personality. While
she demonstrates a keen and persistent aesthetic sensibility, her
innovations bring logic, clarity, and simplicity to some of our
most challenging details.
Katie has contributed a great set of skills
and wonderful sense of quality to our efforts. She understands
the importance of research-based design, and she provides consistently
well thought- out work to our projects. Katie always looks
for the “craft” in
the details.
Her varied skills have produced
for us graphic presentations, three-dimensional models, and construction
documents.

Stacy Sasser
Office Manager |
Stacy joined our firm in early 2007. She is the first person
most people talk to when they call our office. Her work history
includes administrative duties for construction companies, surveyors,
engineers, and attorneys. She is responsible for office management,
bookkeeping, and the day-to day running of the office. Her
organizational talents and skills have contributed amazing support
to all the techinical staff. Her documentation of the many
complex components of all the project phases has been exemplary. Her
presence helps ensure that we always put our best foot forward.
